Sallie Jo Russell has been involved in the sewing industry for more than 25 years, with experience in sewing machine sales, designing, teaching, and writing. Bringing together these myriad skills and her background in home economics, she began SJR Sew With Class in 1990.
Sallie's first book, Pockets Zippers Colors: Clothing Designs For Kids, is a compilation of her "Kids Club" classes and offers creative ideas and pattern adaptations for more than 20 garments kids love to wear!
Her second book, Which Stitch?, offers unusual and creative uses for common machine stitches. It is a spin-off of the series she developed as a contributing writer to Sew News titled "Stitch of the Month." Sallie's newest book, Dynamic Dimensional Designs includes several methods of dimensional embellishment and designs.
Sallie also publishes an ongoing series of individual patterns for adults and children under the "Bag An Idea" label, and writes for sewing publications such as Sew News and the Sewing Update Newsletter. She is the Consulting Editor for the Sewing Update Newsletter.
Living in Central Illinois with her husband George, Sallie is an active member of her local American Sewing Guild Chapter, has chaired its annual sewing fair and served on the local board of directors. She has also presented seminars at several of the American Sewing Guild's National Conventions.
SJR Sew With Class exhibits at numerous national consumer shows and Sallie can be found eagerly sharing her creativity with class participants. She travels nation-wide offering seminars and hands-on classes to these anxious to learn from her vast experience.
