Hiring a professional is money well spent, provided you have chosen a person who is capable of offering advice and direction for your specific kind of business and with whom you feel comfortable. Professionals should be able to make or save you far more than they cost and there is no price which you can place on peace of mind, knowing that the details of your business are being looked after by a competent professional.
Remember - your business is crafts. You are not a printer, accountant or lawyer. You need to concentrate your abilities on producing your goods and hire out to professionals. Be sure to get recommendations from other craft business owners, call for an initial consultation and get an idea of their fees. Be forewarned that you can't always judge value on a per hour basis. An accountant that charges $20.00/hr. may take 3 hours to do your tax return, while one who charges $40.00/hr may have it done in one hour.
Think of the professionals that you hire as people who are on your team, you want to choose people you like, admire and respect. Once you develop your business, the use of professionals will come more into play. You will quickly learn that there are only 24 hours in a day and unless you are willing to let go of certain duties, you will be unable to grow and expand your business.
There is one professional that you just can't be without. Crafting and Cleaning cannot co-exist under the same roof so you will reach a point when you can hire the most important professional of all - a cleaning lady! I was ecstatic when my business reached a point that I could afford to hire a cleaning lady. I figured out that the best day to have her come was on Thursdays so that my house would be clean for the weekend. To this day.....my favourite day of the week is Thursday!
So keep in mind that in order to grow a business you need to DO WHAT YOU DO BEST AND HIRE OUT THE REST!
Many people receive advice, only the wise profit from it. - Syrus-
