I am a
native Washingtonian living in Bellevue, WA. I grew up in North
Central Washington, where I worked in banking, and moved to
Bellevue in 1981. I thought I would be here for only four years,
at which time my husbands job as Resident Engineer of the
West Seattle Bridge Project would be completed, and we would move
on to another job. Well, he fooled me and decided to retire and
we are still here. I have always been interested in crafts. I
learned sewing, knitting, crocheting and embroidery from my
mother at an early age. Doing these things have been a source of
relaxation and creativity. I soon discovered that stashing fabric
was a necessity, not a sin. You just might need it for that
special something one day.
I bought my first knitting machine in 1987. It was PASSAP double bed punch card machine that found a way to continually intimidate me. Soon after, the electronic machine came out and I quickly become the master. I had to quit stashing fabric because I was soon stashing yarn. You do this for the same reasons.
As my inventory grew and grew, I decided to start a home-based knitting business and see where it would take me. After spending several years doing personalized afghans and baby blankets, I was ready to try something different and decided to start making fabric. In 1993 I quit my "real" job as Vice President of Customer Support for a banking software company in order to concentrate all my efforts on now specializing in making Boiled Wool fabric in worsted and merino wool as well as some specialty wools. I have found that this is something I really love to do and do it well. I now have three knitting machines and recently bought a spinning wheel. I believe I see another project on the horizon.
