These instructions are for a bedspread style cover.
To measure yardage for a bedcover:
Width -- Measure from one side of the mattress to the other, plus the drop required and 1 inch for hems.
Length -- Measure from the head to the foot of the mattress then to the floor. Add 1 yard to allow for tucking under the pillow and hems. For a double, queen or king size mattress multiply this measurement by two in order to fit the width of the mattress. Divide by 36" (100cm) to determine the amount of yardage you need to purchase.
For example if your total measurement is 100"(250cm) divided by 36"(100cm) = 2.78 yards(2.5 meters) needed. Cut the total amount purchased in half to make two equal panels.
If you are using a fabric that has a pattern be sure to measure the total length of the pattern. If your pattern measures 15"(30cm) and you are using 2 panels you will have to add 15" (30cm) to the total of each panel.
Split one of the panels in half lengthwise for side sections. Sew one of the halves to one side of the larger panel and the other half to to opposite side of the larger panel. Lay the cover over the bed to adjust your drop. If desired round off your corners and hem.
For your convenience I have included measurements for average common sized beds.
Single or Twin -- 39" x 76" (98 x 191cm)
Full or Double -- 54" x 76" (137 x 191cm)
Queen -- 60" x 80" (152 x 203cm)
King -- 72" x 80" (183 x 203cm)
Dual King -- 78" x 80" (198 x 203cm)
