Last January I was fortunate to be at the first Canadian residential design show in Toronto. It was the first exclusively residential design event and showcased a selection of contemporary furnishings and awe-inspiring design in a unique three-day event for the professional trade and consumers. As a visitor I saw imaginative design and sophisticated presentation from the participating 160 designers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers whose work and product exemplify quality and innovation in the residential marketplace. The show showcased for the first time in Toronto a mix of carefully edited contemporary furnishings, textiles, lighting, floor coverings, and other decorative accessories. "The growth in urban residential building has created an expanding market of discriminating consumers, who, until now, thought that inspiring design could only be seen in Paris or New York. This show allowed design enthusiasts to advance their understanding of good design with over 125,000 square feet of captivating designs from industry leaders, special seminars, renowned speakers, stimulating features an d new collections never before seen in Canada."
I enjoyed every minute of this experience and was fortunate to attend some seminars presented by Canadian House and Home Magazine and Para Paints. They were explaining how to achieve serenity at home through design. Now that's a concept I like. Four leading Canadian interior design firms carefully thought out how to transform 600 square feet of raw space into an awe-inspiring creation that reflected their unique signature style and embodied their own design values. These award-winning firms were: Cecconi Simone, Gluckstein Design Planning, Powell & Bonnell, and Terrelonge. Each of these firms showed an interest in making our living spaces simple, comfortable, environmentally conscience, and ways to create simplicity by a light-filled area.
Although it was by accident I was there that particular weekend, I was thrilled with the opportunity to explore areas I have never thought about. I hope to be there again next year. For more information their website is: www.interiordesignshow.com. Look it over.
