Go to your stash right now and pull out some fabric. On the selvage of your cotton fabric you will find a row of colored dots. Each dot represents how many times a color was printed on that fabric. The dots help the manufacturer line up each printing screen so the colors stay in the design and do not overlap into another area.
Fabrics found in chain stores usually have 3-4 dots. The fabric design has less shading and the design are less intricate. The chain stores are interested in selling a low price product so they print on lower quality fabrics.
Fabrics found in quilt shops can have up to 15 or more colored dots. The manufacturer goes to great detail to provide an exquisite piece of fabric. They work with special designers to give you many unique detailed designs. The fabric are printed on a better quality cloth and use better dyes and finishes. This does cost the consumer more but remember the old saying " You get what you pay for!" A lot of time and work goes into making a quilt. Make your quilt with quality quilting materials to enjoy for a lifetime.
