Materials Needed:
Front button, round neck jacket pattern of your choice or McCall's 8155,2200 or 2112 without the collar.
Base fabric, 1½ yards of 45" wide fabric (yardage given is for a size 12, adjust for your size)
½ yard each pink, green and purple fabric in the same weight as the base
5 buttons
About 70" of ¾" to 1" wide Ultra Suede Strips or bias fabric tubes, backed with Steam A Seam 2™
Tape
Lining for entire jacket
Fusible interfacing
Cutting:
Copy the pattern right front and complete back onto pattern tracing cloth. Copy the grainlines and extend them from top to bottom on each pattern piece.
Transfer the design lines shown in the diagram to the copies
Cut along the design lines
Add 5/8" seam allowances to each cut edge
Position the pattern pieces right side up on the right side of a single fabric layer in the appropriate color
Cut all jacket pieces
Create a one-piece jacket front trim band by marking a line 2¼" in from the neck, center front and lower jacket edge seamline
Create a 2¼" wide band pattern for the back neck, jacket back, lower edge and cuffs
Back each trimpiece with fusible interfacing
Construction:
Create a jacket front and back by sewing the colorblocked pieces together in sequence
Press seams open
Cover all seams with prepared bias tubes or UltraSuede strips and press in place
Edgestitch the strips to secure them permanently
Join jacket shoulders and side seams, press
Sew the interfaced bands together at the shoulder seams, and position them wrong side down against the jacket aright side
Secure the layers by sewing ¼" from the outer jacket edges
Turn the band inner edges under ¼", pin into place and secure with machine stitches
Construct the lining
Complete the jacket according to the instructions
