Lapel Pin Cushion
By Marie Browning, Marie Browning Creates
A unique pin cushion that you can wear in your lapel while working! It comes complete with a guardian angel to make all your sewing ventures successful.
Materials to make one lapel pin cushion:
Scrap of satin, velvet, or tapestry fabric. The piece
should be approximately 4"x4"
Small amount of polyester fiberfill
41/2" bolo end
Scrap of gathered lace, at least 4" long
Thin satin ribbon, 18" long
One ribbon rose, color to match fabric
Gold angel charm
Variety of glass beads
Wire cutters
Designer tacky glue
Needle and thread
Procedure:
1. Prepare bolo by bending down the top prongs until top is flat. Trim the end off the bolo so that the hatpin fits through. Set aside. Diagram 1.
2. Cut a 3" diameter circle from the fabric. With the needle and strong buttonhole thread, sew a gathering stitch around the fabric circle.
3. Pull the gathering stitch and stuff well with the fiberfill. Sew a few stitches to hold and finish the round cushion.
4. Glue the cushion to the top of the bolo.
5. Glue the gathered lace around the base of the cushion and add the multi-looped bow and ribbon rose. Set aside and let dry.
6. With a needle and thread, sew the angel charm to the base of the bow.
7. Thread the glass beads onto the hatpin and add a small touch of glue to hold in place.
