Timberline Flannel Quilt
This
lap size quilt is made from cotton flannel prints, It would be perfect to curl
up with on those cold nights, with a cup of cocoa and a good book.
Approximate finished size 50" x 70"
Materials Needed :
-
10-1/2 yds of cotton
flannels, be sure and include at least 2 greens, a red, a black, and a brown
so you can use leftover pieces for the appliqués.

1/8 yd gold flannel for
stars and moon appliqué.

3-1/2 yds of beige or tan
for backing and appliqué strip
-
1 yd black for binding
Additional Requirements:

The quilt wizard
1/4" Extended Guide and the Stitch-in-the-ditch &
Sewing-on-the-Line attachment.

Neutral thread for
piecing

Matching thread for
quilting

Rotary cutter, ruler and
mat

Large square ruler (at
least 12-1/2") to help in squaring up blocks
Cutting Instructions:
- For the quarter square blocks: Cut
sixteen 12-1/2" squares from a variety of the flannel prints
- For the alternate blocks: Cut
fifteen 10-1/2" squares from a variety of the flannel prints
- From the tab/beige backing fabric:
Cut yardage into two 1-3/4" yard pieces, from off selvage edges and
piece long edges together, press seam allowances to one side.
From this piece cut a 10-1/2" x 50-1/2" strip from one end to make
appliqué background, set aside remaining fabric for backing.
- For binding: Cut seven 4"
strips from black
Making the Timberline Flannel Quilt
- To make quarter square blocks, pair up the variety of
12-1/2" squares, place them right sides together, draw a line
diagonally from corner to corner, sew 1/4" away on both sides of line. (Diagram
A)
- Cut apart on line, press seam allowances
toward darker fabric. You will now have sixteen half square triangle blocks.
- Pair up these blocks, mixing up colors, lay
them right sides together, butting seams in center, draw a diagonal line
from corner to corner, opposite seam allowances, (Diagram
B) sew 1/4" away on both sides of
line.
- Cut apart on the line, You will now have
sixteen quarter square blocks.

- Lay your large square ruler on block, lining
up center and 45 degree line on seam and square to 10-1/2" square. You
will have one extra block
- Piece the blocks together using your Quilt
Wizard 1/4" Extended Guide
- Piece six rows of five blocks. (See picture
for block layout) Sew first row to top of appliqué strip, sew remaining
rows together and add to bottom of appliqué strip. (See
project sheet for appliqué outlines)
- Use fusible web appliqué technique and fuse appliqué
pieces to quilt top, see picture for ideas on placement
- Layer quilt top with backing and batting and
quilt as desired. You could stitch in the ditch using your quilt Wizard
Stitch-in-the-Ditch attachment. We quilted a free motion curvy star stipple
all over top and echo quilted around the appliqué pieces.
- Bind your quilt using the 4" strips.
diagonally piece binding strips. fold in half wrong sides together and
attach binding in your usual manner, a 1/2" seam allowance to make and
extra wide binding.
