Quilting: I only machine quilt. Stretch the layers on carpeting or a large board and safety pin all three layers, about 4 inches apart. This keeps you from having pleats on the back side. Straight stitch from the center out. I use the edge of my foot as a guide so all the rows of stitching are similarly placed when echo quilting. Go 60 mph on the gas and 20 mph with your hands. A little practise and you get the hang of it. I normally don't lower the feed dogs, but on some machines the darning foot won't work until you lower the feed dogs.
