Materials:
Flight Jacket pattern from Saf-T-Pockets with lower band eliminated
Fabric for basic jacket
Lining for basic jacket
Five inches of black UltraSuede �
Steam-A-Steam 2 �
Five 3/4" buttons
1/4 yard of plaid sweater knit or fabric
1/2 yard of stripe sweater knit or fabric
1/8 yard of print sweater knit or fabric Note: Fabrics should coordinate
Three yards of 1/4" cotton cording to be used to fill the piping
Thread
Cutting:
Cut the garment fronts, back and sleeve/side sections, pocket and collar from the basic fabric. Note: We eliminated the lower band and lengthened the garment about 2".
Cut a lining. Note: We eliminated all inner pockets.
Follow the design guide below to cut the decorative sections from the three coordinating fabrics. These fabrics are positioned directly over the garment sections. Decorative sections are them firmly pinned and stitched into place with a zigzag stitch.
Prepare UltraSuede � loops for the garment front. position with pins and stitch into place
Remove one side of the protective paper and back the remaining UltraSuede � with Steam-A-Steam2 ; cut into 3/8" wide strips.
Remove the last layer of protective paper, position the prepared strip over the zigzag stitching, cover with a press cloth and gently press to secure.
Topstitch along both edges of the UltraSuede strips.
Cut bias for the piping from the remaining fabric and join the strips to make one continuous length. (The exact amount needed will depend upon the garment size.)
PWR If the cotton cording shows through the knit, cover the cording with plain color bias strips before covering it with the stripe fabric.
Complete the pocket and secure to the jacket side front.
sew the shoulder seams and the sleeve seams; press
Apply the piping up the jacket fronts, over the shoulder and down the jacket back.
Secure the jacket side/sleeve piece to the jacket fronts and back.
Construct the lining and apply to the jacket as shown in the pattern.
Bind the cuff edge with UltraSuede.
Apply the piping to the jacket side front/sleeve.
