Nancy's Self-Tying Scarf  Londa's Sewing 

Here is a gift idea from our Gift Stitchin' Corner . . .  I share it with the hope that they help you give a gift from the heart.

1. 1/2 yard Polar fleece (3/8 yard of lightweight, drapeable, or sheer fabric for the lighter weight version); 

2. thread to match; 

3. suitable needle for fabric, 

4. sewing machine. 

Instructions are for Polar Fleece All seam allowances are 5/8". 

1. Cut two pieces measuring 40" long and taper them from 9" wide at one end to 5" wide at the other end. On wrong side, place marks 8.5" from narrow end near the seam edges (7" for lighter weight version). 

2. Right sides together, stitch narrow ends together. (Do a French Seam for lighter weight fabrics.)

3. Clean finish neckline area (between the two marks made) by: machine stitching at 5/8" along the edge between the marks. Clip to the stitching at both marks. Fold seam allowances to wrong side between the marks and topstitch using presser foot�s side as your guide. Do the exact same thing to the other edge directly across. 

4.  Fold scarf, right sides together, aligning the 9" ends. Stitch from mark to mark, pivoting at the corners. Trim seam allowances and trim corners. 

5. Turn right side out and press. Topstitch along edge, using presser foot as a guide and aligning this stitching with the topstitching in Step 3.

6. To wear scarf, wrap it around your neck and pull the wide end through the loop. (Lighter weight changes: increase width of scarf to 11" at the wide end and 7" at the narrow end. For seaming, you could do a French Seam to be the nicest.
