Made with these beautiful Moda fabrics this quilt has a sophisticated country look, but you can use any color combination you desire. Just keep in mind you need to use darks and lights to keep the log cabin feel. Traditionally the center square is red to represent the hearth of the home. Approximate finished size is 68" x 68"

Making the Yule Log Cabin Quilt
1. Cut center, light & dark fabrics into 2-1/2" strips x width of fabric (WOF).
Step #1
-- Place center fabric and L-1 fabric (right sides together). Sew strips
together using "The Quilt Wizard 1/4" Extended Guide". Trim
selvage on both ends and crosscut sixteen (16) 2-1/2" squares. Use
your rotary cutter and ruler to keep ends square. Press seams toward L-1
fabric.
Step #2 -- Place new strip right side up and take a few stitches to
anchor strip in the machine. Place a cut block from step #1 rotating
counter - clockwise, wrong side up on top of next L-1 strip. continue to
add cut blocks while sewing to the end of strip. Trim selvage and crosscut
block. Make sure that blocks remain square, Press seam allowances
toward new strip.
Step #3 -- Continue adding strips rotating counter clockwise and cutting
blocks after each new strip is added.

Each color strip will be used twice in consecutive order. The sequence of
order will be:
L-1, L-1, D-1,D-1, L-2, L-2, D-2, D-2, L-3, L-3,
D-3, D-3. (See diagram A).
When chain piecing is finished, there will be sixteen (16) 14-1/2" square
blocks. (Diagram B)
3. Layout completed blocks in a pleasing arrangement (see picture above), but feel free to play around with block placement. When you are pleased with your arrangement, sew blocks together in rows, press seam allowances in opposite directions in each row so you will have opposing seams, then sew rows together to complete your quilt top center.

Inner Border
4. Cut inner border fabric into six (60 3" strips, trim ends to remove selvage and piece together to make one long strip. Measure center of quilt from top to bottom, use this measurement to cut two strips from song strip, add border to sides of quilt, press seams towards borders.
Now measure quilt top from side to side through center of quilt including border and cut two strips this measurement, sew border to top and bottom, press seams to border.
Outer Border:
5. Cut outer border into six (6) 5" strips, ad in same manner as inner border, You will have to piece your backing cut yardage into two (2) 2-1/8 yard pieces, trim off selvages.
Sew the long edges together, press seam allowances in one direction, press fabric well. Layer backing and batting with quilt top, quilt as desired. We quilted wavy lines diagonally across quilt top. Cut binding fabric into seven (7) 2-1/4" strips, piece ends diagonally, press in half, bind quilt using your favorite method. You have now completed your masterpiece!!!
